Step 5 - Complete

Focus, follow-through, and complete it - Get it done!

If you look at the word "focus" closer, it also means focal point, spotlight, and center of attention.  During your very busy days do you find it hard to focus?

  • Do you start out with one task in mind, and then as you are working on that task something comes up regarding another issue that takes you away from your first task without you even knowing that the transfer has taken place?
  • Do you often start the day with certain tasks in mind that you want to complete, and even create a to-do list of what you want to do that day, but by the end of the day very few if any of those tasks are completed, and you are not sure what you did with your whole day, but you do know you worked hard all day.
  • Do you have big overriding goals that could transform your business, however the day to day challenges of running your business from a tactical level keep you completely busy, and even give you an excuse to not work on these bigger business transforming goals.

If you can answer yes to any of these questions, join the majority of business owners.  They, like you are frustrated and do not have a system to focus and complete key goals and objective.  Therefore, throughout my coaching program, I will be continually keeping you on track and bringing you back in line with your key goals when you stray.

We will determine what your key goals are, and keep your focused on pursuing them and completing them.  We will work on the proper delegation of your duties, so that you can continually be working on the issues that are the highest and best use of your time, and we will be delegating the rest.

Look at this from the standpoint of the different duties that you have within your company.  If you pay a janitor $10 per hour to clean your office and an executive assistant $20 per hour to keep your schedule, set up your meetings, arrange your travel, and do your research, etc; then you the owner who is making (or most certainly should be making) a lot more than your executive assistant and janitor, should not be doing tasks they could be doing at a much lower cost to your company.  Please understand, when you under utilize your skills, you are wasting your company’s money, just like you would be wasting your company’s money if you had your high paid Vice President doing janitorial work.

Therefore, the most important thing about focus is making sure you are always certain that you, the business owner, is using your time on issues that are the highest and best use of your time.  And remember, the highest and best use of your time will be spending time working "on your business" rather that "in your business" for a specific minimum amount of time every week.  When you are working on our business, you’re working on issues that will take your company to the next level of sales and profitability, and free up time for you.

Additionally, one of the major tools I will have you use to stay focused is to increase the effectiveness of your time management skills.  If you already implement a time management system, we will fine tune it to make you even more effective, and if you have no time management system in place, we will definitely put one in place for you.
